This week people should think long and hard about what went down two years ago in late August 2005, when Hurricane Katrina would highlight the core of American civilization and its discontents under the reign of what has arguably become one of the darkest and most disgraceful White House administrations in the history of the United States. Here is the video for Mos Def's single 'Katrina Klap" (2005), a critical response to the unprecedented lack of response by the U.S. government to the overwhelmingly poor and black stranded Hurricane Katrina victims. DVD recommendation: "When the Levees Broke" (2006) Hurricane Katrina documentary produced by Spike Lee. It will floor you.
