Islamists capture Somali port city of Kismayo

Aljazeera (also citing scattered Reuters sources) reports that forces loyal to the Islamic Courts Union (ICU) have taken control of the Somali port city of Kismayo. An 'Islamist source' in the capital city of Mogadishu announced to Reuters on Monday "Kismayo has fallen and not a single bullet was fired." The strategically positioned Somali city fell under Islamist control after the warlord who had been ruling the region fled on Sunday following a divide within the regional alliance regarding the appropriate response to the advancing ICU forces, which have now taken control of three major cities in Somalia.
